Homemade Hot Cocoa

Warm, cozy homemade hot cocoa-rich, chocolatey, and perfect for those cold winter nights!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Cocoa powder
  • 1-1/2 to 2 cups Granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp Salt

Method

  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a stand mixer, food processor or blender so they're well incorporated & store in an airtight container.
  2. To make a mug, heat your mug of water or milk (we prefer milk) and then add 1-2 TBS of the cocoa mix and stir to combine. We found that 2 TBS of the cocoa mix makes the perfect cup of cocoa! At this point you can add a splash of vanilla for added flavor and top your mug with marshmallows! Enjoy.

Notes

This is how cocoa was made in the old-school days! Simple and with clean ingredients.  A lot of homemade hot cocoa recipes call for powdered milk but my kids don’t care for the taste of powdered milk. So I keep it simple; cocoa, salt and sugar, then we add the fresh warmed milk when we make a mug of cocoa. This is such a simple recipe with basic pantry ingredients, totally shelf stable minus the additives and garbage! 🙂
