Homestead Cabbage Rolls

Tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a hearty filling of ground meat & rice, then baked in a simple tomato sauce until tender and delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 Large head of cabbage
  • 2 lbs Ground meat I'm using lamb but any ground meat will work
  • 2 cups Cooked rice
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1-2 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1-2 15 oz Cans of tomato sauce
  • 1-2 15 oz Cans of diced tomatoes

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Place the whole cabbage head in the boiling water for 5-10 minutes, removing softened leaves as they loosen. Set the leaves aside to cool.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice & seasonings.
  4. Place a scoop of the meat mixture into each cabbage leaf. Fold in the sides and roll them up tight. Place rolls in a 9X13 baking dish seam side down.
  5. Pour tomato sauce and diced tomatoes over top of all the cabbage rolls, sprinkle with a bit more salt/pepper & oregano.
  6. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, uncover and allow to cook for an additional 10-15 minutes. The cabbage should be tender and the sauce bubbling. Simple, hearty & homey! :)
